Out of a handful of homes seen this past weekend, we really liked just two of them. The first one stood on a quiet, dead-end street surrounded by other charming-looking, single-family houses. This old beauty, we were told, had been in the same family for decades. What this meant, fortunately, was that the original doors (heavy, wooden) and door knobs (glass, delicate) were all still intact. The bathroom still had its original tile scheme--pink and burgundy--along the wall, across the floor and up around the side of the tub. The wood flooring was also in good nick as it has been hidden under carpeting for many years. In short, the house was fairly pristine and we dug it. The listing agent kept repeatedly referring to the home's potential. What potential? It's a beautiful two bed, one bath with formal dining room, living room and eat-in kitchen. We're good with that! I guess the agent is thinking that folk would be attracted to the property because of the massive garage spanning the length of the house that could be converted into many more rooms and bathrooms/AirBnB unit/rental property. 'Build out' potential seems to be on everyone's mind except ours. Again, the house stands on a small street with limited street parking. More cars in the road are both an eyesore and a pain in the neck for those needing to move on and off the block.

Pavement art, couldn't have been more than 3"x3" |
As we were coming out of yet another open house, I spied this wee street art---a meter cover painted over the with an SF skyline replete with tiny Golden Gate Bridge.
The second house we very much liked was an Art Deco delight, as I have taken to calling it, on the fringes of a sort of derelict part of town. It was another 'house that stayed within the family' arrangment and yielded yet more gorgeous tile work in both the kitchen and bathroom. There was even a built-in vanity in the walk-in bedroom closet. Below is a shot taken of the Deco bathroom. There is a lovely tiled shower stall out of frame as well as a large sash window. The tub is also lavender, in case anyone is wondering. It's a lot of color to take in, but I'd happily brush my teeth in there!
I had another follow-up for the foot issue today. The only good thing about going to see the doc is the view from her 11th floor office.
All views commanding, especially the final view.
ReplyDeleteMade the wait for the doc more manageable.
DeleteSo how did the visit to the doctor go?
ReplyDeleteLove the views, and hope that at least one of the housing beauties fulfils its potential to become your home.
They are beautiful beaties. Fingers crossed! Doc altered the left-foot insole (I wear insoles now!) in the hopes of mitigating near constant toe pain. It does feel a tiny bit better... :)
DeleteThank you for asking. x
Glad the doc was able to make things a bit easier. Love the views and that bathroom
ReplyDeleteYes, me too. The bath, the views and the wee pavement art are all fab. (I accidentally deleted your second post/reply. Never look at the blog on a cell phone. Lesson learned!)
DeleteOh good, you're finding houses to your liking. That's much better than last time.
ReplyDeleteThat is quite the view.
Yes and yes. .:)
DeleteHey Bea, it's been a minute since I've been online for more than once :) I'm glad to see you're still blogging. I hope you find a place that's perfect soon. Happy hunting.
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow! I thought you left blogland, for some reason, for good. :) Nice to see you, D.! May you and yours be very well. xx
