Emily's mural was 'tagged' before she'd been able to apply a protective layer over it to shield it from both sun damage and the threat of vandalism. On Sunday, fortunately, she and a group of volunteers went out to scrub away the damage. I think Emily is now on track to apply the sealant this week.
And in other mural news, a second artist, Orlie K., who working this weekend at another site along the Great Highway, was verbally harassed by passersby. One person even called Orlie's piece 'visual pollution'. Orlie's work decorates various businesses in SF and beyond. Pollution of any kind it ain't.
People suck. With all that's going on in the world, people are complaining about art? Yikes.
ReplyDeleteWell, these jokers are complaining about a roadway being closed to cars, so attacking art that now will be flanking the new park is their dum-dum response. Super sucky.
DeleteIt's closed. They should get used to it.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope they will!
DeleteDefacing art is a shame and more. They should take it out on Tesla's.
ReplyDeleteI've spit on a few of those Bizarro World Tesla models, of which there are more than a few here in town, and I'm sure their fancy surveillance system has caught it all. I don't care.
DeleteLOL @ Joanne Noragon!
ReplyDeleteOh, that's so sad. I'm glad a good group of volunteers stepped up to clean it off!
ReplyDeleteYeah, it is. -good thing is that the mural has been cleaned up and sealed, so that future jerks won't have a good result on making a mess of the mural.
DeleteI agree with Joanne. There are so many more deserving things out there worthy of this kind of vandalism. Glad the volunteers got it squared away and the mural is looking good again.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it was great to see it restored. I'm glad that Emily, the artist, had so many volunteers come to her aid. :)
