Relocation

Welp, we've upped sticks and moved west. I write 'west' as the new digs are about seven blocks from the ocean. Our new neighborhood is so much quieter than the old one as it's no where near a freeway and the roads running through it are not major thoroughfares. The most sort of exciting thing that seems to happen here is probably happening right now: A neighbor has double parked in the street in order to continue talking rather animatedly on her mobile phone. She's been parked in the street now for about ten minutes. -must be a good chat?

In the four years we lived at the old address, we had indigents sometimes passing out in our garage-way, the occasional party person drinking and smoking on our stoop, folks sleeping rough on the corner across the street from the house; refuse was regularly left on that same corner so that it resembled a trash pick-up spot. (Spoiler alert: The trash was never picked up. The items just sort of blew away or were finally taken by god-knows-who.)

On our first night sleeping in the new place, we marveled at being able to see the stars in the night sky from our bedroom window. We also couldn't believe how quiet everything was. It's the kind of quiet that begins to have its own sound in one's ears. From the corner of our street, we can see the ocean and have been treated to some of the most lovely sunsets this past week. The people that traverse this area just seem to be performing regular old activities like walking dogs, biking to the beach and grabbing a coffee around the corner. So far, so good.

Here's a shot of the new place before we officially moved in. I might call it 'the calm before the box storm'.

Before

After...oi vey!

Sunset peek from the corner.

Sunset on the rocks, as it were.

    1. Yep! Both walking and biking distance. :D I biked along the Great Highway (road flanking the beach) and then up into Golden Gate Park. It was lovely. I'm so glad to no longer be looking for a place, that is for sure!

  5. Good golly, what a view! You can flood these pages with sunset-over-the-ocean postcard views as long as you wish. I hope you enjoy your new home & neighbourhood, and that the locals are friendly! It sounds almost like a respite from the last. Gritty realism can get a bit wearying sometimes.

    1. I didn't realize how sort of demoralizing it was until I left the old 'hood and felt immediately better. Grit ain't so great, eh?
