Ballots have been mailed and we're barrelling toward Nov. 3 faster than I would like. I've yet to pour over the voting guide; I am not really looking forward to it. A small group of us Sunset Dunes (the park at the beach) supporters were out handing out campaign materials last evening at an event in the Mission. Most folk, as one might imagine, were not there to talk politics. Fortunately, those who did interact with me were pleasant. One comment by a park-supporter was akin to the 'bridge building' rhetoric from some Democrats regarding how we must treat Drumpf cultists. He said something like: We must be nice to those who are for Yes on G (aka the proposition, if it were to pass, would destroy a park). Why do we have to be nice to people who are not voting for the greater good? Why do we have to placate people who cannot see beyond the end of their own nose?
Anyway, I will end this bit with a snap from last week of the sun setting at Sunset Dunes, the new park at the beach. Ahhh...so lovely.

What a spectacular sunset! I get the point of "being nice" or at least polite? But if they still are into that whole mess, there is no turning around at this point.
ReplyDeleteI had a solo canvassing event today on the old Great Highway. There was one dude who walked by while shaking his head at me. When he came back after having walked the length of the new park, he said something like: I am voting against this park.
DeleteSir, you are USING the thing that you say you hate.
If I could only respond with a huge EAT SHIT, but I am meant to keep composure, alas.
Good luck on defeating proposition G!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Debra!
DeleteI got my ballot already. I need to sit down and figure out what I'm voting for, but I just haven't had the energy. I guess you don't want to get glimpses of the air show? They do one in Huntington Beach, and while I don't go, I can see the flyovers at my father's house. It's impressive.
ReplyDeleteYes, but it's too dang loud for me. I was in the Presidio today at my volunteer gig. The place was packed out with lookie-loos. The sky was solidly overcast. We saw nothing yet heard everything overhead. It was kinda strange.
DeleteWe have New Zealand's general elections happening in November and I am so over it, so much bickering and arguing, I'll be glad when it's over with.
ReplyDeleteMay it all go well in the general elections!
DeleteGorgeous sunset photo, Bea—it captures exactly why preserving the coastline as a sanctuary matters so much.
ReplyDeleteYou're not alone in dreading the Blue Angels, either. Having that deafening noise rattle the neighborhood while trying to go about your day is nerve-wracking, especially with all the anxiety in the news right now.
Kudos to you for getting out there and volunteering your time. Hope the rest of your week brings a little quiet and a lot of calm!
Thank you, kindly, Mr. Shife!
