Health matters

Yesterday, I had an ultrasound performed. I was told that the results of the procedure would be known today. I rang my doctor's office and spoke with the receptionist. She said that a nurse would be calling me back shortly as she was 'just finishing up with a patient'.  That was two hours ago. I rang back after about 90 minutes to ask (a different receptionist) if the nurse were now available & was told that she was 'with a patient'. No time quote could be given to when she'd ring me except that it would be 'before the end of the day'.  I certainly wish that the first receptionist hadn't dangled the possibility that the nurse would be prompt in sharing the test results with me. It set up a false sense of timeliness. I'm beginning to think that when it comes to matters of health one must be prepared to settle in and wait.

Twenty minutes after speaking to the second receptionist, I received the test results via email. If I were a doctor, then I'd know how to interpret them. I'm more freaked out now then when I was just waiting for all eternity for the nurse to call me back. There's forty minutes left until it's the 'end of the day'. May the nurse call me, so that I can either calm down or be freaked out but with a clear idea of why.

  1. Fingers and toes crossed for you.
And sigh on the 'inconvenience' of having to talk to someone about their results...

    1. Thank you for your note! The nurse just rang & explained what all the high-fallutin' words were in the findings. I'm somewhat less freaked out, thank goodness. Follow-up care is imminent, however. The fun never stops, you know?

    2. I am glad that the nurse did ring. I have too often experienced these waits and they often don't ring. Good luck with the next stages.

  2. Yes, it can literally take days to find out anything. My Dr. is online and after accessing your account, all test results etc. are there including explanations. All very new and thorough even way out here in OK. I saw the word rare in one test recently and kind of freaked, but Dr. said it was nothing. Just have to wait and remember that worrying does nothing to change the results nor the speed of them.
