Bunny ears and tube socks

This shot makes Easter Sunday skating look relatively tame, but the grass out of shot both to my right and left was packed out with lookie-loos and skaters taking a load off. By the end of the afternoon, someone had even pitched a small tent for those who wished to get out of the sun. There were a few regulars whom I recognised. We chatted during breaks on the bench.

Roller boogie & more.

Our man in the foreground, lovely though he may look, pays no mind as he swirls and twirls and occasionally loses his conical hat while grooving about the pavement. One must often swerve around him in order to avoid collision. He is fun to watch, however, from the sidelines.

The ladies in the middle of our informal skate rink were performing choreographed dance moves to disco music. Many of them were kitted out with bunny ears, wee skirts/tutus & fun hosiery. It was a treat to watch them and even more fun to skate around in circles for a good portion of the afternoon as they did their thing.

Early in the day. Note the California flag someone brought with.

  1. It does look like a heap of fun.
As a chronic klutz I would be a lookie-loo, but suspect my smiles would split my face.

  3. I haven't skated since we used keys to tighten our skates. They would probably be banned nowadays. I need one of those Vietnamese hats to garden in, but haven't found them anywhere. Maybe I'll piss Trump off and go order one on Amazon.

  4. I'm in Donna's group. We had to go to the next street to have a sidewalk, and our streets were not paved. So long ago.

    1. Interesting. By the time I was born, streets around these parts had all been paved. SF still had some unpaved roads when my parents were children, however.

  5. Dear Bea, I was never--even when young with a flexible and lithe body--able to roller skate well. During the late 1940s and the early 1950s our small class would sometimes have a roller skating party at the local rink, but I spent most of the time on the sidelines! Still I enjoyed what I could do and the photos you posted here display people having a lot of fun! Peace.

    1. It's a ton of fun. I'm just about as good as I was when I was 13, to be honest. If skating were graded, then I would be a B-.
