I've been walking a bit outdoors. The weather is mild. Afternoon temps usually hover around 15C/59F. Yesterday, I walked around the entire block & it was a great triumph. The trek wasn't without some discomfort, but it was do-able. I have to remind myself periodically that foot injuries may take some time to heal & that every step should be regarded as progress. Being a bit of a pessimist, it takes effort to remain in the 'glass is half full' camp.

Earthquakes and old friends...
I was en route to my mom's place in the East Bay around 11a when a warning message flashed across my phone's screen: TSUNAMI WARNING...
Foot injuries are awful. That you're up and walking is amazing. Keep up the good work. Yeah, I know, it doesn't feel like that. Just look back on how far you've come.
ReplyDeleteProgress - that is good.
ReplyDeleteYes!
DeleteIf it is any consolation, shoulder injuries take longer. No, I didn't think it would be.
ReplyDeleteHa. Nope.
DeleteI must tell Tom, all injuries are relative. Having one of each, plus a broken leg, I can tell you I am envious and proud of your recovering foot. Mine could not get around the block, although my shoulder does a good job supporting my broken leg with a cane. But, I could not shift a block of marble.
ReplyDeleteYes, they really are relative. I'm glad your shoulder is strong enough to do what it needs to with a cane.
DeleteI'm mentally prepping for an outing later today that may require a decent amount of stairs. I shall have Advil in hand...
Dear Bea, you really do need to be gentle to your foot. I had a stress fracture of my right foot five years ago and had to wear a special orthopedic shoe for several weeks. As a result of the fracture, I developed arthritis in my foot. (I suspect that age has something to do with this because I'm now having trouble with my left foot also.) So some days, I hobble as I walk.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to keep the glass half-full when in pain. I try to remember how good my feet have been to me all my life and repeat to myself, over and over, this mantra: Life is good.
I also say many times throughout the day, every day, "And all shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be exceedingly well." Julian of Norwich prayed that many centuries ago and it has gotten me through all the vicissitudes of life. Peace.
I was told that I have a bit of arthritis in my foot now as well. I was fortunate to not have had a fracture, so I am not wearing a boot. But bone and tissue inflammation did make it terribly challenging to stay mobile for a time.
DeleteThank you. I will remember to go easy on my foot. I do talk to my feet, can't leave one out, thanking them for getting me around so well all these years. It helps to keep me from feeling negative.
