Grössen |
I am not very inspired to write about what's going on these days beyond saying there's been a small car accident and a cancer diagnosis of a family member to contend with.
Instead, I'd like to share with you some German vocabulary. Without giving the translations of the words above, could you take a stab at what these might words mean?
Hope you all are safe and well. x
I know "klein" means "little" and "grosse" means "big." I don't know what "winzig" means but I'll extrapolate from the context and guess that it means "tiny."
ReplyDeleteDing! Ding! Ding! Gewinnerin!
DeleteOh no I'm sorry about the bad news you are dealing with on top of everything else. Stay strong.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joey. x
DeleteI am sorry about the accident and the cancer. Very sorry.
ReplyDeleteI know that grosse means large and using the pictures as well I am guessing we are talking size graduations. Small and titchy?
Hugs.
Thanks, E.C. Also: winner, winner, chicken dinner! You are correct!
DeleteDebra is quicker than me.

DeleteSending you and yours well wishes. There's actually an English assignment where they use foreign words (the assignment I saw used French) and the students were to figure out what the words meant using context. It's a great mental exercise.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Liz.
DeleteYeah that's brilliant. Contextually, students get this sort of thing. Fun stuff!
Sorry for all the bad news come to your family. Best of luck.
ReplyDeleteThank you,Joanne.
DeleteThanks for the German lesson. I saw Debra's answer and now I can insult my friend in German. He will be proud of me. He spent a year over in Germany on an exchange and is a big fan of the country. Sorry to hear about the family news. Take care.
ReplyDeleteHaha. If you need anymore adjectives, then let me know! And thank you.
DeleteI thought winzig might be weeny! Sorry to hear that the Normality of life intruding is of the fraught kind.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Pip. Yes, it's weeny-teeny-tinsy etc.! :)
DeleteSorry to hear your bad news. You could do without that at present. Hope things take a turn for the better.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan.
DeleteIt's the 7 syllable words I have difficulty with.
ReplyDeleteDampfschifffahrtsgesellschaft needs one more syllable.
DeleteSo sorry about the Cancer. I hope whatever form it is, they've got it quickly and the person can be on the mind. Auto accidents, never fun. Beyond dealing with insurance, getting car repaired or replaced etc. Always a headache. Hope things improve for you. Stay well.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
Thank you, Sandy. I think what makes both situations (although the car accident really pales in comparison) tricky is the virus issue on top of it all. -coming into contact with strangers, shouldering responsibilities in a solo fashion, etc.
DeleteWinzig kenne ich gut.:)Sind ja keine guten Nachrichten
ReplyDeletein der Familie wünsche alles Gute und gesund bleiben.
Gruß
Noke
'Winzig' ist so ein lustiges Wort. :)
DeleteDanke fürs Schreiben.
